Pattachitra, derived from the Sanskrit language, combines two words, ‘Patta’ meaning cloth, and ‘chitra’ stand for painting. These fine line paintings of gods and goddesses were done on cotton and silk with colours available in nature.
Hand-painted on cotton canvas using natural dyes, this artwork narrates the stories of Lord Jagganath and the dashavatars.
In our endeavour, The Heritage Art hopes to revive this art and bring the glory of its greatness back to help the artists keep alive this ancient art of ours.
The joy of watching something exquisite being created out of the most basic elements is nothing short of magical, and this exquisite Pattachitra artwork painted on cotton canvas is a heritage treasure.
