Description

The flamboyant 15th-century Adalaj ni Vav, also known as Rudabai Vav, was built in 1411 to commemorate Queen Rudabai. The vav is built in a beautiful fusion of Solanki and Islamic Architectural styles. Constructed using sandstone, the beautiful carvings of Hindu Gods intersperse with Islamic graphics throughout the five levels of the stepwell.

The Jaya-styled stepwell has three entrances from the south, east and west, meeting at the 1st level of the stepwell. The opening in the ceiling above is an emblem of superior architecture. It allows light and air to enter the octagonal well, but direct sunlight never touches the steps, except at noon!

The Adalaj Ni Vav Watercolour illustration is a timeless tale of beauty and melancholy. Articulate your walls and work desk with a print of Adalaj Stepwell and find yourself bewitched by its architecture.
